Wraparound Home expands a Nineteen Thirties San Francisco residence with aptitude to spare


Designed by Spiegel Aihara Workshop (SAW), the 4,800-square-foot Wraparound Home in San Francisco’s Marina District adapts and expands on a preexisting domicile courting to the Nineteen Thirties. However it takes its identify from its neo-moderne styling, which recollects the idiom prevalent on the time of the sooner dwelling’s development.

Inside, SAW included curves in plan and elevation that have been extrapolated from the unique arched doorways. This gave the clear, modern drywall finishes a sculptural presence, particularly obvious within the skylit central stairwell, whose complicated geometry creates a continuously shifting gradient of sunshine and shadow.
